SWVA Today, media service of Southwest Virginia Newspapers- Food bank works to meet growing need
Tracy McCarty writes: "The start of the school year is an exciting time for students and teachers, but some parents anticipate the first day for very different reasons. Many families struggle to make ends meet, and the start of school means their children will be offered two hot meals at a reduced price or free, depending on their income. This may seem like a small relief from financial worries, but for some local families food has become almost a luxury. After household bills are covered, some families struggle to put food on their table."
