Tri-County CAA Board Announces New Director

From The Gazette-Virginian Online: Coleman Replaces Coleman

Rev. William J. Coleman has been hired as the new president and chief executive officer of Tri-County Community Action Agency, Inc. and Halifax County Community Federal Credit Union, the board of directors announced last week.  Coleman began his duties last Monday after the boards executed a three-year employment agreement.   The irony of this appointment is that Rev. William J. Coleman is replacing William E. Coleman who served in that capacity for over 42 years before retiring this fall.

Although totally unrelated, the two men share the common vision of serving the community's low income and disadvantages population, according to CAA Board Chairman W.P. Hudgins.

Southeast RCAP in the News: Water Flowing to Baptist Valley

October 19, 2009-Bluefield Daily Telegraph writer Greg Jordan writes:

"Ground was broken Monday for a water project that will create 711 new residential sewer service connections.
The Baptist Valley Sewer Project will serve the areas of Adria and Baptist Valley."

William E. Coleman, the long serving president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Tri-County Community Action Agency and Halifax County Community Federal Credit Union, officially stepped down last Wednesday after 42 consecutive years with the agency.

Lynchburg Literacy Council Moves Office

The Lynchburg Literacy Council, Inc. announces its move to a new office which opened on September 28, 2009, on the fourth floor of the Lynchburg Community Action Group’s building at 926 Commerce Street in Lynchburg. The office is open daily on Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Gov. Kaine Announces $11 million in Grants through Homelessness and Rapid Re-Housing Program

RICHMOND – Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced more than $11 million in grants through the Homelessness and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP), authorized through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The HPRP program is designed to provide assistance and support to prevent homelessness or to quickly re-house and stabilize those who are currently homelessness.

Ten of the organizations listed in the news release are Community Action Agencies in Virginia.
