VACAP Annual Report

The latest VACAP Annual Report 2009 is available on the website under “Programs”.   This report features success stories from each of the twenty-nine VACAP member agencies in 2008-2009, and includes quantitative measurements of agency results, including meeting the emergency needs of 125,000 people (50 percent increase compared to last year), improving the quality of life for 10,000 people through health programs and parenting skills programs (2,500 more people served than last year) and providing rental assistance for over 6,000 people (2,000 more people served than last year).

New York Times: Living on Nothing but Food Stamps

In a New York Times article, authors Jason DeParle and Robert M. Gebeloff write:

"About six million Americans receiving food stamps report they have no other income, according to an analysis of state data collected by The New York Times.  In declarations that states verify and the federal government audits, they described themselves as unemployed and receiving no cash aid - no welfare, no unemployment insurance, and no pensions, child support or disability pay."
